Final Score: 2-0, Cubs
The Los Angeles Dodgers and the Chicago Cubs squared off on Memorial Day Monday. Alex Wood got the start for L.A. looking to take the opening game from Chicago. Wood pitched well, he got in and out of some trouble a few times but the Cubs truly capitalized on an error by Yasiel Puig that sent Ben Zobrist to third base and broke the 0-0 tie. The Cubs went on to score two runs that inning totaling the final score.
The offense was just plain bad for the Dodgers. The only hit for L.A. came in the first inning in the form of a single by Justin Turner. The Dodgers were swinging at anything which resulted in a laughable effort against the Cubs bullpen.
Wood shined on the mound but was handed the loss, still lowering his ERA in the effort. It won’t get any easier Tuesday as the Dodgers take on the reigning Cy Young winner Jake Arrieta. Scott Kazmir will be getting the start for the Dodgers.
