Lakers will host the Clippers, begin battle for L.A. in season opener

The NBA released part of the 2017-2018 schedule and The Los Angeles Lakers will host the Los Angeles Clippers in their season opener for the second-straight year.

Last year when the Lakers hosted the Clippers in the regular season opener they won. The Lakers hope history repeats itself although this time both the Lakers and Clippers’ roster will be vastly different.

The Chris Paul-less Clippers led by Blake Griffin will face Lonzo Ball and the new-look Lakers. Tip-off will be at 7:30 PT on October 19 on TNT.

While the Lakers’ victory last year was taken with a grain of salt, (The Clippers were clearly the better team) this year there is a reasonable debate about whether the Clippers will remain the better team.

With Paul now on the Houston Rockets and the Lakers revamped with Ball and an improved Brandon Ingram, the battle of L.A. will actually be a battle. Therefore the season opener, no matter who wins, will be more of an accurate measure of which squad will rule the city this year.

New faces like Lakers’ Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and Clippers’ Patrick Beverley will seek to make their mark on their respective teams.

Familiar faces like Laker forward Julius Randle and Clipper point guard Austin Rivers will look to step up and have a greater role in their team’s success.

Back when the Lakers were dominant, the Clippers were a footnote. During the Lakers’ recent struggles, the Clippers have had Lob City and been a playoff team. Now that both organizations are rebuilding, there will finally be real competition between the two.

The NBA will continue to roll out the 2017-2018 schedule but has teased fans with just enough to get them excited for what’s to come. The city of L.A.will get things rolling by having an answer to the question, who runs L.A.–at least for a game.
