Lonzo Ball is the new face of Los Angeles Lakers and he’s here for more than just a takeover on the court; he’s also here to take over the rap game.
Lonzo is not new to rapping. The 19-year-old No.2 overall pick has been spitting verses for a while. Once upon a time ago, he used to have a video pinned to his Twitter profile of him freestyling in a car. Today that pinned Tweet has been replaced with his new single ‘Melo Ball 1’ that raves about none other than the youngest Ball brother, LaMelo Ball.
In a previous interview with Spectrum SportsNets on an episode of Connected With…, he told Chris McGee that he had some music dropping soon. Soon has finally come as Lonzo recently dropped the ‘BIG BALLER’ music video on YouTube and just followed it up with an official single ‘Melo Ball 1.’
It seems L.A.’s rookie sensation is here to dominate the rap game just as much as basketball. So far Lonzo has lived up to all the hype on the court, from revitalizing UCLA’s men’s basketball program to winning MVP in the NBA Summer League. So if his success in the gym is any indication of his success in the booth, then Laker fans can enjoy watching and listening to their new star.
I’ve always considered Lonzo to be a decent rapper—as in not someone you’d want to please sit down. His last track ‘Big Baller’ showed he had bars, and his latest, ‘Melo Ball 1’ does much of the same. It’s a praise of his youngest brother on and off the court. That is to say, it’s Lonzo pumping up his baby brother so LaMelo doesn’t have to do it himself.
