Final score: 7-4, Angels
The Los Angeles Dodgers played the final game of the freeway series last night and it wasn’t pretty. Ross Stripling got the start for the Dodgers and was pitching decently up until he started allowing runs. He got pulled for Chris Hatcher in the 5th inning, who allowed two more runs to score (charged to Stripling) and in the 6th inning, allowed two runs of his own. Even though Hatcher didn’t pitch any better than the Dodgers starter, Stripling was tagged with the loss. The offense started out strong but tailed off yet again. Chase Utley scored three of the Dodgers’ four runs and Howie Kendrick drove two in with a triple.
Howie Kendrick 2 (7)
Joc Pederson 1 (21)
The Dodgers lose the series 3-1. The only win came on Kershaw’s dominant start Tuesday where he went eight innings and the pen wasn’t brought in.
Something needs to change in the Dodgers bullpen but one thing is clear, manager Dave Roberts needs to stop putting Hatcher on the mound in pressure situations, something he doesn’t seem to be able to handle.
Today’s game will be against the San Diego Padres. Scott Kazmir will be up against Padres’ Christian Friedrich as the Dodgers look to get back into the winning column.
