Final score: Dodgers, 8-4
The St. Louis Cardinals traveled to the west coast to play the Los Angeles Dodgers Friday for game one of a three game series. Ross Stripling got the start for Los Angeles matched against Cardinals’ Michael Wacha. Stripling pitched a strong game and through five innings of work allowed four runs off of eight hits, walked three batters and struck out two. His performance against St. Louis earned him his first MLB win.
The bullpen was strong once again for LA. Adam Liberatore, Louis Coleman Pedro Baez Joe Blanton and Kenley Jansen all had scoreless outings and allowed only one hit.
The offense came alive for the Dodgers Friday. Yasiel Puig pulled out of his hitting slump in a big way collecting three hits including a homerun and two RBIs. Stripling also got his first career hit to add to his first career win.
The Dodgers’ victory over the Cardinals was impressive considering St. Louis has had the Dodgers number most recently. It’s too early in the season for the win to have any larger implications, but it’s great to see LA gather a win like this against a proven team.
The Dodgers look to keep up the momentum today with Scott Kazmir on the mound. They have been bordering around a .500 record this season so winning this series would be a step in the right direction for a Dodgers team with high expectations. Kazmir will be on the mound matched against Cardinals’ Carlos Martinez.
