Final score: 6-5, Mets.
The Los Angeles Dodgers started a series with the New York Mets last night. Julio Urias made his much anticipated MLB debut but it didn’t go exactly as the Dodgers had hoped. He had a rough first inning allowing three runs. After that, he settled down and didn’t give up any more runs, but only went on to pitch 2 2/3 innings. He allowed five total hits, had four walks and struck out three.
At the top of the 9th inning, Chase Utley doubled in game-tying runs only to see the Mets hit a walk-off home run in the bottom of the inning.
Urias wasn’t as sharp as he should be in the future, and starting your first game on the road against a good team has got to be tough. Utley was the hero of the game for L.A., preventing the Dodgers from an embarrassing loss and taking Urias off the hook.
The Dodgers and Mets will play again today. Kenta Maeda will get the start against Noah Syndergaard.
Chase Utley 4 (14)
Yasmani Grandal 1 (15)
