The Los Angeles Lakers have made it very clear they want to sign Paul George in free agency next summer, and the All-Star forward is stringing them along.
Paul George has been linked to the Lakers for quite some time, and despite L.A. being investigated for tampering with the ex-Pacers star, most of the rumors come from George’s own words and actions.
George informed his former team, the Indiana Pacers, that he was going to walk away from them once he became a free agent in 2018. He also told them he was going to join the Lakers. With a clear problem on their hands the Pacers traded George to the Oklahoma City Thunder for as much value as they could considering he would only be a rental for OKC.
Then after months of publicly targeting L.A. as his free-agency destination, George said that the rumors of him joining the Lakers were ‘overstated’.
That statement seemed to be more flattery of his new team and city than the actual truth, but now he seems to be hinting at joining the Lakers once more.
George spoke to Kristian Winfield of SB Nation and suggested he was leaving all possibilities open next summer.
“We’ll see,” he continued, addressing the idea of joining the Lakers next season. “I’m a Thunder, and my job is to give them the best I have this year and see what happens after that.”
But for now George is simply trolling L.A. and Laker fans by dangling the possibility of him suiting up in the purple and gold next season.
