Final Score: 8-6, Pirates
The Los Angeles Dodgers and Pittsburgh Pirates squared off last night for the first game of a four-game series. The newest Dodger, Nick Tepesch came in looking for a quality start. He pitched a good first inning but it went downhill from there. Tepesch lasted four innings, allowing five runs off of seven hits while striking out three.
Louis Coleman came in as relief but wasn’t much better than Tepesch allowing two more runs to score, and a couple of innings later, Chris Hatcher entered the game for L.A. and gave up another home run to the Pirates.
The offense came to play last night, scoring six runs in total including a huge home run from Yasiel Puig. However, it wasn’t enough to make up for the team’s bad pitching display and the Dodgers dropped the first game of the series.
The longest winning streak of the year for L.A. was snapped with this loss, however, the offense has been showing signs of life and with Kenta Maeda on the mound today the Dodgers should get back in the win column. Maeda will be up against a struggling Pirate Jeff Locke.
