The Sparks sweep the Mercury, head to the Finals for a second straight year

The Los Angeles Sparks complete the sweep of the Phoenix Mercury for a back-to-back trip to the Finals.

The defending WNBA champion Sparks finalized the sweep of the Mercury in thrilling fashion to head back to the Finals. L.A. beat Phoenix 89-87 behind a crossover and layup by Candace Parker that left just 2.9 seconds on the clock.

This after none other than Diana Taurasi hit a three pointer over three Sparks defenders to tie the game at 87.

However, Parker’s heroics would seal the deal to send L.A. to the Finals yet again.

The Sparks will face the Minnesota Lynx in a Finals rematch between two teams that swept their way to the championship round (The Lynx finished off the Washington Mystics in three games).

The rematch heats up a much-needed rivalry within the WNBA that makes it a must-watch series.

No. 1 seed Minnesota is out for revenge against the No. 2 seed Sparks. Last year’s matchup went five games and L.A. won Game 5, 77-76 on the road.

If the Sparks are going to bring home the trophy for the second-straight year, they’ll have to do it on the road again.

If the Lynx are going to bring the chip home, they have to prove they aren’t just the best regular season team but the best team period.

The rematch begins Sunday, September 24  at 12:30 PST and will go down as one of the best series in WNBA history.
