Sparks Top Fever, remain undefeated at home

The Los Angeles Sparks hold the second-best record in the WNBA and they continued their dominance at Staples Center with a win over the Indiana Fever to remain undefeated at home.

The Sparks gave a balanced performance that led to a win over the Fever to push their home record to 9-0 this season. L.A. bested Indiana in all four quarters of the game in route to an 80-62 victory. Chelsea Gray led all scores for the Sparks and was a plus 24 on the floor.

L.A.’s leaders Candace Parker and Nneka Ogwumike added 14 points respectively in the Sparks’ start-to-finish win.

The biggest highlight from the game came from L.A.’s Alana Beard who reached a career milestone of 4,500 points. Beard drained a spot-up three on what looked to be a broken play early in the first quarter to notch her achievement. The shot sparked the home team’s momentum and they never looked back.

With this win the Sparks improve to 14-5 on the season and gives them a three-game lead over the Phoenix Mercury who have suffered back-to-back losses and widened the gap for second place in the west. Three of L.A.’s final games of July will be at home, and with the way they play in front of their own crowd, they have great chances of gaining a game or two on the Minnesota Lynx who currently hold the best record in the league.

The Sparks’ next battle will be at home against the Chicago Sky Thursday, July 20, at 12:30 p.m. PST.
