28 year old, Stephen Curry, celebrated his birthday with a big win at home in the Golden State Warriors 125-107 rout of the New Orleans Pelicans Monday night. Although it was Curry’s big day, he was the one giving away treats for fans early in the game with one incredible move after another. Including this ridiculous 33-foot three-point bank shot to close the third quarter.
Yes, the chef was cooking, but so was his team. As a gift to Curry, the entire Warriors squad decided to get buckets. Golden State made 12 threes overall, and just about half of them came from players other than the splash brothers. Leandro Barbosa was 1-1 from the three-point line, Mo Speights was 1-2 and Brandon Rush went 2-4 from beyond the arc. When the Warriors reserves are hitting shots like that the team is pretty much unbeatable. Even James Michael McAdoo put his stamp on the game. The small forward seldom gets playing time because of the Warriors depth, but with Andre Iguodala out with an ankle sprain, McAdoo along with the rest of the Warriors bench will have to step up in his absence. McAdoo made the most out of being in Monday night’s rotation notching 11 points and five rebounds in just 13 minutes of action.
Golden State’s bench was a major part of the Warriors win over the Pelicans but the game’s biggest highlights came from their starters. Oracle Arena exploded after Steph dropped a miraculous three-pointer from the corner that was set up by a sweet double pump fake from Barbosa; I mean this release should be illegal:
Look at the muscle memory Curry has to avoid stepping out of bounds:
It’s hard to believe but despite Curry being Curry, the biggest splash of the night came from big man Andrew Bogut who also joined in on the three-point onslaught with one of his own from the top of the key. Bogut is now two-for-two on three-pointers as a Warrior.
Curry finished the game with 27 points in 31 minutes going 10-16 from the field including 4-9 from three. I’m inclined to say Steph balled out for his birthday, but for him, it was just another day at the office. Golden State’s reserves get a lot of credit for this win scoring 55 of the dubs 125 points. They showed up for the birthday boy and gifted him another fourth quarter of rest.
