USA Dominates China 119-62 In Opening Game Rout
The USA men’s basketball team dominated China defeating them 119-62 in their first game of the Rio Olympics. The 57-point win is the highest margin of victory for the United States since the dream team beat Angola by 68 points in 1992.
Kevin Durant was the leader for team USA raking up 25 points on 10-14 shooting, with four rebounds and six assists.
Carmelo Anthony, competing in his fourth straight Olympics, ended the night with nine points, seven rebounds, two assists, one block and one steal. After the match with China, he is now tied with LeBron James and David Robinson for the most Olympic games (24) played for the U.S.
Paul George scored 15 points in his Olympic return after suffering a gruesome leg injury in a scrimmage against team USA in 2014. DeMarcus Cousins scored 17 points and Kyrie Irving dropped 12.
Next up for the U.S. will be Venezuela, Monday at 6:00 pm ET. With the result being a foregone conclusion, the entertainment will come from DeMar DeRozan’s quest to bring the NBA dunk contest to Rio, and guessing whether or not the men’s team will win by more or less than 50 points.
